What’s the news? Cricket Wireless  is proud to work with ESPN Events to bring its hometown of Atlanta another exciting opportunity to celebrate the rich heritage of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)at the Cricket Celebration Bowl to be held on December 18th at the Mercedes Benz Stadium - Jackson State University vs. South Carolina State University.

Our support of HBCUs includes sponsorship of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and South-Western Athletic Conference (SWAC)sporting events during football season and continues year-round on the campuses. We also worked with the MEAC and SWAC to create the HBCU Campus Ambassador Program, which helps to develop leadership skills through community work with up-and-coming Black leaders.

Throughout the football season, we’ve been traveling to HBCU campuses with the Celebration Bowl trophy and the Cricket Fan Zone trailer. Inside the trailer students have an opportunity to take an in-depth look at the history of HBCUs, win prizes, and take pictures with the trophy.

Why does it matter?
Through our collaboration with these organizations, our goal is to create authentic and culturally relevant experiences for our customers and the community.

We provided over 600 game day tickets to the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) members and their families so the kids can experience the excitement of this year’s Celebration Bowl and get exposure to HBCU’s.

“Ultimately, through this important relationship and event, we hope to further expose the rich history and tradition of HBCU’s to more of Atlanta’s youth and reinforce that these opportunities are within reach,” says Tony Mokry, vice president & chief marketing officer, Cricket Wireless.

“We are committed to bring our youth and their families their next great moment this holiday season” said Jim Clark, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America.  “We are so thankful to Cricket Wireless for supporting our mission to help kids and teens reach their full potential and are excited to provide them with an experience they will never forget.”
